If you wandered through school during Relay for Life, you might’ve thought you stumbled into the most chaotic, feel-good festival this side of the parking lot.
And honestly? You would’ve been right.
Teachers dunking on students in basketball. Students returning the favour with dodgeballs. Karaoke performances that ranged from Broadway-worthy to someone please cut the mic. You could turn any corner and find something happening, whether that be trivia battles, bracelet making, volleyball games, or people enthusiastically doodling on the backs of each other’s shirts like it was some kind of wearable yearbook.
Meanwhile, the MVP of the event may have been the ice cream truck. If joy could be measured in sticky fingers and ice cream moustaches, this year’s Relay was a gold-medal contender.
But beneath the confetti energy, this day meant something bigger. It was about raising funds and hope for the fight against cancer. Our school came through in the most incredible way, smashing past previous records to raise around $12,000 this year.
That number means more research, more support for families, and more moments where communities like ours get to say: we care, and we’re in this together.
So whether you were scoring points, singing your heart out, or just wandering around eating ice cream and getting handprinted, you were part of something real.
And if next year’s Relay is anything like this one? Count me in. Shirt and marker ready.
